On Saturday October 1, 2016 several members of the Cicero Fire Department were in attendance at the Spinning Wheel Restaurant for the annual Onondaga County Volunteer Firemens Association (OCVFA) Installation and Awards Dinner.


At this event, the following current and former Cicero Fire Department members were awarded with a Meritorious Act Medal for their initial actions on-scene of a serious Motor Vehicle Collision which involved several Mutual Aid Agencies and spanned several hours in September of 2015 at the intersection of Route 31 and Route 81.


• Deputy Chief Brian Johnstone

• First Assistant Chief James Meyers

• Second Assistant Chief George Barrett

• Captain Kyle Dreverman

• Firefighter Michael Flanagan

• Firefighter John Flanagan


These six award recipients were nominated and selected by the OCVFA Awards Committee for their heroic efforts within the first several minutes on-scene of this incident which were critical.


It is important to understand the Chiefs Office of the Cicero Fire Department, OCVFA Executive Board and Board of Directors understand that there were several agencies involved to ensure the best positive outcome.


As a result of this, in the coming month those agencies and bystanders who were involved in helping with this incident achieve a positive outcome will be contacted to arrange a presentation to receive recognition for their dedication and hard work that evening.
